Army Sports Directors use to like to sit around and talk about the old days and tell stories that were hard to believe. You could never verify these stories because hardly anyone knew where they originated.

It is with extreme pleasure that we can provide you with this history of the Army Sports Program. We hope this information becomes the reference support for some of those old stories.

We started out on this venture with a blank sheet of paper. After several trips to the Pentagon Library, the Center for Military History, the National Archives and the National Still Portrait Gallery, we developed a booklet of over 7000 words utilizing over 30 sources and countless conversations with sports directors across the Army. As a result of this research, a website on the Internet was established and a static display of the history of the Army Sports Program was developed.

The Army Sports Office and I hope you enjoy the stories and photos contained in this Internet offering and hope they rekindle some old memories.
