The top 12 Operation Rising Star Finalists will now advance to the Finals (airing on this website and the Pentagon Channel, beginning 11 December).
The top 12 will need audience votes to help advance them in each round of the competition.
The audience will be able to vote online and the votes will count for 50% of the competitors' final score.

SGT Jon Whittle
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri
SGT Jon Whittle is originally from Rockwall, Texas and has 3 daughters. Whittle was in his high school a cappella choir, particpated in local music theater, performed the National Anthem at multiple military ceremonies and before the Springfield Cardinals game.
Q: What genre of music is your favorie?
A: Country
Q: When did you realize you had a talent for singing?
A: Naver had the talent, had to work hard at it. Got told when I was younger that it was the one thing I couldn't do very well and that got me so agitated that I worked on it every day. My family hated me for a whole year. But I can sing now very well because I was determined to do so. I hate being told that I can't do something.
Q: What is your all-time favorite song?
A: Honestly, there are way too many songs of different styles that I love that there is no way that I could narrow it down to 1.
Q: What importance has music played in your life?
A: I can lose myself in my music. With work and 3 kids, I need that escape. It is also something that I can share with my kids. It is not just a big part of my life but theirs as well. |

Operation Rising Star is a vocal competition hosted by US Army Family and MWR Programs. Army Garrisons from around the world hosted competitions in the summer of 2011. Twelve of the top contestants from around the Army were selected by a panel of judges to advance to the Final competition, airing on this website, beginning 11 December 2011.
