
The top 12 Operation Rising Star Finalists will now advance to the Finals (airing on this website and the Pentagon Channel, beginning 11 December).
The top 12 will need audience votes to help advance them in each round of the competition.
The audience will be able to vote online and the votes will count for 50% of the competitors' final score.

Family Member, Varinia Herrera
Fort Carson, Colorado
Varinia Herrera is originally from Dallas, Texas and is a mom of four children. Herrera has performed in two local bands in Dallas, worked as a studio vocalist on several commercials and placed 2nd in the 2010 Operation Rising Star competition at Fort Carson. Her greatest success in music is being able to help other people feel the music.
Q: What genre of music is your favorie?
A: Country/Metal
Q: When did you realize you had a talent for singing?
A: 4th grade chorus. I was always the loudest and I would always stand out.
Q: What is your all-time favorite song?
A: Wow! That's hard! "No Rain" by Blind Melon - it's a happy song.
Q: What importance has music played in your life?
A: Music has carried me thru a lot of hard times. Through music, I am able to express any and every emotion. |

Operation Rising Star is a vocal competition hosted by US Army Family and MWR Programs. Army Garrisons from around the world hosted competitions in the summer of 2011. Twelve of the top contestants from around the Army were selected by a panel of judges to advance to the Final competition, airing on this website, beginning 11 December 2011.
