To date, 57,600 spouses of Soldiers have been hired for positions at one of the 31 Fortune 500 corporations who have joined forces with the Army Spouse Employment Partnership (ASEP). This includes the 15,647 spouses hired this year. As of this October, eight more corporations, including Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., joined forces with ASEP, bringing the total number of corporate partners to 39.

In October, 2003, the Army formally signed a Statement of Support with 11 Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies and two military agencies who pledged their best efforts to increase employment and career opportunities for spouses. FORT BELVOIR, Va. – Three Army wives, two Soldiers and an Airman advanced to the finals of the 2009 Operation Rising Star singing contest on Nov. 17, following 2 hours of online voting that counted 50 percent in the elimination process.

No movie has been made of Otis Sistrunk’s life, although he has acted in a few, including “Car Wash,” a 1976 comedy produced by Universal Pictures. A book was written once, but Otis said the publishers in New York told him there wasn’t any “dirt” in his life to make it something that would sell.

The show must go on. For the Soldiers who audition for a spot on one of Army Entertainment Division’s productions, such as the Soldier Show or the upcoming competition Operation Rising Star, sometimes their desire to hear the roar of the crowd can get drowned out by their mission.
