Automotive Skills

Stop by your local Automotive Skills to thank the MWR staff members for the work they do helping Soldiers, Families, Retirees, and Civilians to keep their cars road-ready and safe.

Automotive Skills Facilities on Army Garrisons worldwide are equipped with vehicle lifts and a broad selection of tools and state-of-art equipment for self-help repair and maintenance of personal motor vehicles. Customers have a clean, safe environment in which to work. Auto Skills facilities collectively have 1.320 indoor work bays and 1,400 outdoor work bays available for vehicle repair and maintenance. Many facilities use computer data base reference systems to provide customers quick access to vehicle-specific diagrams and how-to-information.

Staffing:  Skilled staff members are available to assist and instruct customers and provide safety orientation classes on use of equipment. Garrisons continue to achieve mechanic certifications for automotive staff through the National Institute for Automotive Service exams. Certification is encouraged to broaden the expertise of the staff.

Programs and Services:  In addition to self-help auto repair facilities, many Automotive Skills facilities offer spray paint booths, car and dog washes, tow services, welding, and parts store. Supporting the Army Family Covenant, the Automotive Skills offer programming for Family members and work with Family readiness Groups to offer organized classes to spouses.  Automotive Skills program supports the teen apprentice program, “HIRED”, with employing youth in paid positions to meet the employment and career-exploration needs of Army teens 15-18 years of age.

The Automotive Skills Program provides an opportunity for Soldiers, retirees, DA Civilians and Family members to reduce maintenance costs through self-help repair.
