2019 Toppers

The 2019 US Army IMCOM Europe Entertainment Tournament of Plays (TOPPERs) is an annual theater competition celebrating outstanding achievement at US Army Europe Entertainment Theaters and US Military theater groups across Europe. The program also provides educational and mentoring opportunities for Theater staff and volunteers.
Lastly, the TOPPERs celebrates theater volunteers and the hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours they give their communities while producing outstanding theater and musical productions.
From April, 2018 to April 2019, 3,604 Soldiers, Family Members and Civilians gave 199,757 volunteer hours putting on live theater events in their communities, entertaining over 34,000 audience members. Computed at the official rate for volunteerism, this equals to $4,930,002.78 in manpower donated to military communities across Europe.
The 2019 TOPPERs adjudication period was 20 Feb. to 1 Mar., 2019. This year, 19 shows from 13 military communities were adjudicated. The team of three professional theatre artists and adjudicators also presented free workshops in acting, directing, auditioning and other theater skills.

Annette has had a long association with US Army Entertainment, having served as an Adjudicator and Workshop Leader for both the TOPPERs and the annual One Act Play Festival. She has had a more than 45 year career working in community, educational and professional theatre around the world. She is a gifted director, stage manager, adjudicator and workshop leader.
As a director she has worked for 17 different theatre companies in Canada and the United States and her productions have won numerous awards and much critical acclaim. As one reviewer said “this was, without a hint of exaggeration, the best performance we've ever seen.”
She co-founded two professional theatre companies in Canada and has served on the boards of numerous opera and theatre companies as well as representing Canada internationally and on the board of Theatre Canada.
As an adjudicator, Annette has participated in festivals in Europe, Canada, Japan and the United States having judged more than 125 festivals in 30 years.

Annette is also an AACT Fellow. This honor was bestowed for “single handedly raising the level of community theatre in America.” She is one of only two non-American to hold the AACT Fellow distinction.
Annette is the author of the only book on adjudication - "Do You See What I See."
In recent years she has worked extensively with playwrights in Canada and the United States on script development and has been a judge in several play writing competitions.
