Active at a Desk Job

Question:

How can I be more active when I sit at a desk all day at my job?

Answer:

The easiest way stay active during the day is to walk. Set a timer on your computer or phone to get up and walk for at least 2 minutes every hour. These bursts of activity will increase blood flow to your heart and other muscles, while also giving you more energy. Most people know that too much sitting during the day leads to multiple illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and even some cancers. The problem is that most jobs require you to sit for most, if not all, of the day. Read HPRC’s “Stand up for your health!” for more tips and information from the American Institute for Cancer Research on how to put more activity into your work week.
